Basically i'm attempting to give some kind of context as to why Durkheim was a fucking genius:

When I talk about the potential influence that Durkheim’s personal and political situation may have had on his sociological vision, there are a number of factors to which I allude. Born into a Jewish family on the French side of the boarder with Germany, Durkheim was bought up in a time of social unrest in France caused by religion and the ongoing Republican versus Loyalist conflict. This led to a paradoxical upbringing for Durkheim in many ways; living in Alsace amongst an undercurrent of anti-semitism forced him to consider what it meant to him to both Jewish and French. This developed Durkheim’s interest in the project to end religious identity as a prerequisite to achieving a French national identity and formed the beginnings of the backdrop to which Durkheim based his sociological vision.

ps fucking awesome night last night but had far too many types of food and drink and have the mother of all hangovers. unimpressed. fairly impressed by how AWESOME sunday is going to be. The Permanent Turn Cold AND the Legacy??? I've got an idea....lets take every single attractive person from the south of england and spend a night in their, meesh and hannah's company. Yeah? Alright.

10:17pm: DIY SUMMER CAMP
Recruits so far:
Gemma and Hannah are the artiest friends I have who happen to be ultra awesome best friends so are the crucial to the design aspects of the project.
There is no limit to the number of people needed for photos, prints, frames, lamps, bargain hunting.
Gemma - painting and collages, may be needed for trips to homebase for more paint (eg when we decide we need more bats) and to limit my spending on homebase credit card.
Hannah - soft furnishings, textiles, extensive viewing history of diy shows
Angela - any technological aspects and practical issues as well as more general nuggests of inspiration and wisdom.
Steve will have a role, I just need to work out his niche.

Payment in food and alcohol, flexible hours. Must be willing to work some evenings but no mornings.

An understanding of design plans resulting from too much Bauhaus and a love for soft furnishings is a must.

Timetable:
June 5th-11th - Alice declutter, put life's belongings on ebay/livejournal
June 12th - 17th - Planning stages commence - collages starting to form etc, chosing paint colours
June 18th - My birthday - get absolutely off our heads (lets be honest)
June 19th - 25th - All structural work and painting. A lot of the buying (ie shopping) will take place this week as Mum may opt for professionals having witnessed my painting skills in the past.
June 26th - June 31st - curtains go up, pictures are hung, etc etc. basically finish the whole thing off.
Weekend off
Monday 3rd - any final touches


Basically, I want input from as many friends as possible. Be it artwork, photos, photo frames, ANYTHING. I want it to be so that every time I come home I am reminded of everyone I love and care about. And for it to be ultra cool, of course.

(carbon copy of text to hannah):The theme is slightly Bauhaus inspired, possibly still hot pink but with lots of black silhouettes, eg of bats, eagles, skulls, possibly people. lots of photos and posters all in different frames (blu tac is banned), interesting lighting - lamps are crucial, no pine or chrome, oak floor board with rugs. maybe a projector instead of tv (pending budget review), lots of collages and anything not suitable for display in scrap books and photo albums. i want somewhere beautiful to reminisce and be surrounded by things that remind me of my friends and good times.
